I am an experienced practising fine artist, educator, and curator, passionate about sharing and facilitating the learning process with others. I believe in lifelong learning, both in myself and others. In my own practice, I exhibit in solos, group shows and artist residencies nationally and internationally, and work to commission. I create mixed media sculptural assemblages with a focus on environment, blurring boundaries between sculpture, drawing, textiles and installation.
I have a PGCE and 30+ years' experience teaching and working with communities of all ages, abilities and demographic. This includes a whole spectrum of visual arts including drawing, painting, collage, textiles, printing, and 3d. I've taught in schools, colleges, universities, arts and environmental centres, and privately. Adult teaching includes venues such as Frome Community Education and Bath College, and I run online sculpture courses focusing on nature using recycled and found materials.
I am a member of Royal Society of Sculptors, and have an Masters in Fine Art. I was an Ingram Prize finalist '21, recipient of a Gilbert Bayes Award '19, and received a Red Line Art Works Award '19 for environmental installations. Alongside my own fine art practice, I curate large-scale community art projects (e.g: As Old as the Hills, '24, The Gleaning '22; B-Wing,'19; step in stone '15). All integrate environment, culture and community. This sometimes involves community co-creation.
Through representation at Maureen Michaelson Gallery, I was commissioned to create a 4m hand woven canopy as a focal piece for Sarah Eberle's Viking Cruises Mekong Garden, Chelsea Flower Show '16, which won gold and best artisan garden.
I am on the board of Somerset Art Works as a Trustee, previously SAW Rep for the Mendip area. I was a Trustee for Black Swan Arts, and on the Programming Committee, and have contributed to resources for arts organisations (e.g: Somerset Art Works, Art UK).
