Learn traditional and modern upholstery techniques to save a treasured chair or family heirloom from landfill. 

As an experienced Interior Designer, Angela will teach you how to apply your creative ideas to make a unique piece for your home. Classes are built around demonstrations of techniques on student projects and individual tuition to embed skills. Acquire new skills and advance to more ambitious projects as your confidence grows while making new friends in a relaxed and social atmosphere. 

Classes are available in 5-week blocks with the option of morning and afternoon classes for those looking to progress their project more quickly. All levels are welcome.

On enrolling, Angela suggests students email photos of their proposed project to info@fromecommed.org.uk to check if it is suitable for the class and their level of ability. She will provide advice on suitable projects for beginners.  

Equipment needed by students prior to course start:

Gloves (vinyl, latex or cloth,) mouth masks, and eye protectors, are used to protect against dust etc. when stripping chairs and fire-retardant materials that can irritate sensitive skin.
Eye protectors when removing or applying tacks or staples.
An apron as upholstery work can be dusty. 

Tools: basic kit to start. 
2 pairs of scissors: cutting upholstery materials, other exclusively for fabric,
small wooden mallet, magnetic hammer (£15 approx/Draper brand/online),
pliers and or staple remover, tack remover, (£7 approx/Draper brand/online), 
old chisel, to use for stripping upholstery from frames,
tailor's chalk, 
web stretcher,(approx £15/online). 
Bin bags to take home any discarded materials. 

Materials will be available in the class to purchase to progress projects and all comply with current legislation.
