Christina Rossetti is regarded as one of the greatest nineteenth century poets that lived, as well as being integral to the Pre-Raphaelite movement. In 1853, she came to Frome and stayed for nearly a year. Although dismissed by many of her biographers as an 'unhappy period in her life,' it was, in fact, one of the most influential and defining twelve months of her life.
